Houseplants Make Air Healthier

On September 8th 2009 Dennis Decoteau from Penn State's Department of Horticulture did an experiment showing that houseplants in the house can help the ozone and the air stay clean. All over the world people need houseplants and if they do, we can save the environment. The ozone layer protects us from harmful UV (Ultra Violet) rays and if we keep it clean, we can have a safer, cleaner Earth. For Decoteau's experiment, he placed a snake plant, a spider plant and a golden pothos into a greenhouse chamber to tell weather it helps the ozone layer or not. The experiment showed that some plants help the ozone better than others. Houseplants also help people become happier. 82% of the participants that have plants at work or at home feel happier or "content. My opinion on this subject is that I think that we should all have houseplants in our house because it will help the whole world!

Awesome job on your response. This is a very unique, cool way to help the ozone and air stay clean. It's also very interesting to find that 82% of the people that have plants at work or at home feel happier or "content". I find Decoteau's experiment very intriuging and helpful to the world around us. In addition, I agree with your opinion that everyone should have houseplants because it would indeed help the Earth. Once again, ecellent job on your post, I certainly learned a unique way of helping out our planet. :)

I agree with the others who have posted comments here, nice post. Houseplants are not only good for the environment, but decorative as well. In our kitchen we have a plant that is supposedly ayurvedic and very healthy for your body. We sometimes use it in our cooking. THis proves that houseplants are also useful in our everyday lives. Likewise, houseplants should be in everyone's homes. And it is interesting to know that houseplants make people happier. Overall, the topic of your post was very interesting and made be think of houseplants, which is something I don't usually think of.
